  According to the international assessment results, the trend of the overall loss of global biodiversity and the decline in ecosystem services has not been effectively curbed to date, and the targets of the conservation and sustainable utilization of biodiversity (Aichi Targets) set out in the Convention on Biological Diversity have not been achieved as scheduled. Among the various drivers of biodiversity degradation, mining and large-scale engineering construction are still important factors that lead to the habitat destruction or loss and the decline in ecosystem services. In the mining process, the biodiversity in the mining area will be directly destroyed, and extensive abandoned land including open pits, waste rock dumps, gangue fields, tailings ponds and subsidence areas will be formed. The construction and operation of large-scale projects such as railway, highway, channel, transmission line, oil and gas pipelines and water conservancy projects, and the construction and operation management of resource development projects such as tourism development, residential area and urban construction, hydropower, wind power and solar power stations will also have varying degrees of impact on the biodiversity and ecosystem services. How to make effective use of advanced concepts, methods and technologies to effectively protect and restore the biodiversity and ecosystem services affected by mining and large-scale engineering construction, and pay high attention to biodiversity on the basis of traditional ecological restoration or restoration is a major challenge to the conservation and sustainable utilization of biodiversity.
