The most common jobs in commercial banking are as a credit analyst and as a lending officer. These jobs require a strong understanding of accounting. Because banking often requires that you document loans and justify credit analyses you have written, communication skills are extremely important. Communication skills refer to both oral and written communications.If you would like to work in a money center bank, you need to have an international talent.International talent here refers to the multi-cultural background, For instance, some multinational banking corporations are looking for U. s-educated Asians and Latin Americans to go back home and grow businesses locally.You also need possess the skills of marketing. Today, a teller in a bank branch office is no longer a teller, but a seller. A new business model is spreading into banking,that is,banks have become marketing-oriented consumer products companies. They are trying to build valuable brand images with consumer-oriented advertising and distinct product lines. Not only tellers but also bank officers must become consumer-oriented, needs-based, and aggressive salespeople. Thus, finance students should learn some marketing courses to obtain good marketing skills in order to be well-suited to the new demand.Nowadays banks have an increasing demand for finance professionals who can develop products for the corporate market. The traditional corporate lending people continue to be downsized and terminated while the investment products and mutual funds people have increased. Most of them have been hired from other investment firms and mutual fund organizations.Meanwhile,banks are also competing for the people who are skilled at foreign exchange derivatives.
